Take a moment to have a play with the widget on the right. This will give you a much better idea of who we are and what we can do to help you enhance your site.

After you have familiarized yourself, please read down for more in-depth information.

Please also remember that all the demonstrations beneath are Real and Live. So, if you were to come back tomorrow you would see a whole new range of examples. We have also used the Widget Wizard to give you a glimpse of the different styles you could create. Cool!

Why the name eManac.com?
Well, it's quite simple. Just like eMail (electronic mail) or eZine (electronic magazine) we are an electronic Almanac.

A definition of Almanac:

"originally, a calendar with notations of astronomical and other data. Almanacs have been known in simple form almost since the invention of writing .... The popular almanac, however, developed in the 17th and 18th cent. into a full-blown form of folk literature, with notations of anniversaries and interesting facts, home medical advice, statistics of all sorts, jokes, and even fiction and poetry."
The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition Date: 2008
So, as that is exactly what we offer and we are on the net we called ourself eManac.com.
Articles and Catalogs
eManac.com is built on two concepts. Articles and Catalogs.

An article can have any content: text, images, music, video or a mixture. They cover a huge range of interests from moon phases to legends, dinosaurs to cartoons.

Catalogs are collections of articles.

An article is a member of at least one catalog. This catalog has just a single entry which is the article. Articles can be and are normally members of other catalogs. As an example, the dinosaur article on the right apart from being a member of it's own catalog is also a member of the Daily Gallery and Prehistoric catalogs.

Now a bit more about catalogs.

Catalogs come in a variety of forms. If they are static they never update, for example books.

If they are dynamic they update at set frequencies. These are the core of eManac.com. The dynamic catalogs update daily, weekly or monthly.

Catalogs can have a single or multiple items.

Enough explanation, let's see some examples

Article
Firstly, let us look at how to link to an single article.

Beneath is today's article from our Classic Tales. This would appear when an article link is clicked.

Move your mouse over the "Link Wizard" icon and see the magic unfold!

Listed are the different options that you can use to link to the article, along with an example of what the code will create.

Read on and we will explain them all to you.

Catalog Browser
With so many articles and catalogs, we have developed the Catalog Browser.

This a great tool that allows you to fully explore all our content and catalogs.

For our dynamically updating catalogs, not only can you see the current entry but you can also browse future editions.

When you have identified the content, all you need to do to get the code is to click the

Or to fully customize the look to fit into your site click on

Widget Wizard
With so many options available to you we have developed the Widget Wizard.

This is a very simple, but also very powerful, tool that allows you to easily format content to neatly fit into your site or blog.

Options include:

  • widget type
  • fonts
  • background and foreground colors
  • dimensions

Simply select the appropriate settings in the menu. On the right is a preview panel showing your work as you progress.

When you are happy with the result, cut and paste the appropriate code into you site.

Finished!! What can be simpler?

Script
On the right we have a script example. This is our from our Daily Bugs collection. This is a very easy way to embed catalogs or single items in your site.

As an example the code for the widget on the right is:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://eManac.com/widget/?script=y&a=/c/g/MMDD.xml"></script>

Simple!!

Embed
Another option is to embed an iframe. This again is very easy to do.

As an example the code for the widget on the right is:

<iframe src="http://eManac.com/widget/?a=/c/OTD/d/MMDD.xml&g=%232b094e&h=%236a0c0c&j=3&k=1&m=16 &t=%23000000&w=frame7.jpg" width="178" height="380"></iframe>

Notice here we used the Widget Wizard to create a gothic type theme for our daily On this Day catalog.

Image
We also offer an image only option. This is a screen capture of the catalog in jpeg format.

We have one for every single one of our articles and it also applies to our daily catalogs with single items.

This is an ideal option for such sites as MySpace, that do not allow scripting or iframes.

Just cut and paste the image and link into you page. We will take care of the rest to ensure it updates.

On the right we have built a little viewer to see what we offer. You can also check out our page on MySpace that makes great use of them:)

Direct Link
For single articles you can link directly. So the text would look something like this:
"I found this amazing site that has a great collection of articles about space. You can click here to see what they are offering today."

As an example the code for the widget on the right is:

"I found this amazing site that has a great collection of articles about space. You can click <a href="/widget/?a=/c/widget/space.xml&b=article" target="_blank">here</a> to see what they are offering today."
RSS
Beneath is an example of what you can do with our files in raw RSS.

Here, in association with Widgetbox.com, we have created a range of external widgets reading our RSS files.
